China Approves Innovative Single-Port Laparoscopic Surgery System

On November 24, 2023, the NMPA granted approval for the innovative “Single-Incision Laparoscopic Surgery System.

The system comprises a doctor’s control console, patient surgical platform, image processing unit, three-dimensional electronic laparoscope, surgical instruments, and accessories. This laparoscopic surgery system, based on a single-incision approach, features surgical instruments with a flexible shoulder-elbow-wrist hinge joint, providing multiple degrees of freedom for precise and flexible operations with substantial load capacity.

When implementing laparoscopic surgery through a single incision, the system allows surgeons to complete the procedure by maneuvering the laparoscope and surgical instruments within the patient’s abdominal cavity. The external positioning arm remains stationary during remote operation, minimizing the risk of intraoperative collisions. This innovation enhances the precision of surgical procedures, reduces the number of abdominal incisions, and minimizes surgical trauma. The regulatory authorities in charge of drug supervision will intensify post-market surveillance to ensure the safety of this product for patient use.
